There’s nothing worse than wondering whether everything is correct, whether you didn’t miss any detail, just when you are about to hit the Send button. There is no un-sending a sent message. However, there is something that’s much worse: sending a campaign with something wrong or some missing information and realizing it much later, when the damage is done. For such nightmarish situations, we’ve created the Mailee Checklist Spreadsheet. This is a useful list that you can use to quickly check what must be done before sending a message. Now leave the traumatic task of sending correction messages behind! Download it here.
You’ve just created your entire message, edited the content and reviewed it. But you’re still thinking about that subject line.
All you have is 7 seconds to make a first impression … and that is the subject line of your email.
Although the subject line is the most important part of an email maketing campaign, it always ends up being written in a hurry, towards the end. The Mailee Subject Line Spreadsheet is for such cases: fill all possible alternatives, compare their lengths, assign tags and also compare results. Take your subject lines seriously with this tool, and soon enough, you’ll see the difference in your metrics. Download it here.
We’ve said before that, depending on your strategy, you shouldn’t worry so much about open rates or clicks, instead you should focus on the financial return that email campaigns are generating. If this is your case, then the Email Marketing ROI Calculator is the perfect tool for you, after sending your emails. Using data you provide about how much you spent on a campaign, and what were the conversions, it calculates what was the return on your investment, as a percentage. Extremely useful for strictly commercial messages.
Face it, as an email marketer, you’ve had to deal with HTML at some point. And you’ve probably faced problems with your HTML code, maybe with tags that were not closing, or wrong syntax, or wrong tables, the whole rigmarole. Generally, this is the result of making several changes within the same code. If you noticed that your template is misconfigured, pass it through the W3C Validator, which will point out everything that’s wrong with your HTML. In case of e-mail messages, the two best options are to upload the entire file, or to copy and paste the entire code. Then it will point out all the problems with your code, line by line. No more breaking your head with code.
HTML for e-mail has certain peculiarities. For example, some e-mail clients such as Gmail do not accept CSS styles in the message. Therefore, it is recommended that all your CSS is inline, i.e. within the HTML tags. If your message already has several styles, which may not be displaying correctly on some email services, the right thing to do is to pass the message through an inliner, like this one from the Zurb Foundation. It will transform any style to inline, eliminating problems in your message. Just paste any HTML code and click convert, and voila! you will have the same code fixed.
Finding images for newsletters can be difficult. Unsplash is a great source for beautiful images in high resolution, which are completely free. You must depend on their selection of images, and they are not categorized, but new pictures are added every 10 days. There are many, and they serve to several different contexts. The image at the top of this post is theirs, by the way. Cool, huh?
You need to create a banner, header or a nice graphic for your newsletter, but you have no money, neither are you a wiz with Photoshop. Don’t fret, all you need is Canva. It’s an online drag and drop editor that allows you to create fully customized and amazingly elegant images quite easily. It has hundreds of free elements for use.
For those who do need Photoshop, but have no money or patience to deal with such an expensive and heavy program, there’s Pixlr. Pixlr is an image editor based on the layers that work on the web. It is ideal for those who need to resize or do some quick editing in an image. Use it to keep images of your campaign in the exact dimensions you need, without distorting them. Icing on the cake? The interface mimics Photoshop.
